When my family moved to the Grand Haven area in 2010, we did so with intention. We chose this community to plant our roots because of its vibrant character and, most importantly, because of the excellence of Grand Haven Area Public Schools. Watching our children grow up here and navigate their education from Young 5s onward has only deepened our commitment to this community and to GHAPS.
After a decade of being grateful GHAPS parents, I chose to take the next step. Five years ago, I committed to investing my time, energy, and professional talents directly into the leadership of our schools by serving on the GHAPS Board of Education. Since being elected in 2021, my guiding philosophy has been simple: build durable, transparent, and long-term systems that elevate educational quality while remaining strictly accountable to local taxpayers.
A Proven Record of Direct Action
True public service requires focused policy and real accountability. Over the last five years, I have worked diligently to address the foundational aspects of our district that matter most to our community:
Proactive Safety & Security: Student and staff safety is our highest priority. I brought the position of Director of Safety and Security directly to the Board, ensuring our district has dedicated, expert oversight to keep our buildings secure.
Award-Winning Fiscal Oversight: Your tax dollars are a public trust. I have strongly supported the modernization of our internal financial systems and advanced accounting controls. These structural upgrades have empowered our award-winning finance department to manage district resources with top-tier efficiency, precision, and transparency.
Open Governance & Transparency: Public institutions belong to the public. I spearheaded the initiatives to stream our Board meetings, publish supporting presentation materials, and release agenda details well ahead of meetings so our community is always fully informed.
Balanced & Improved Learning: I have proudly supported our new K-6 Reading and English curriculum and elementary math curriculum that focus on proven learning methods and real-world application.

When we look at the health of a school district, we cannot just look at the current academic year. True leadership requires planning a decade or more into the future. Over my tenure on the Board of Education, I have consistently pushed to move GHAPS away from reactive decision-making and toward proactive, visionary governance.
By establishing long-term blueprints and structural controls, we are ensuring that today's investments deliver exceptional results for decades to come.
